Abstract

A simple method for the synthesisof graphene oxide (GO) from expandedgraphite using an ultrasonic cleaner is described. Due to the synergisticeffect between intercalation (oxidation) and ultrasonication, thismethod showed strongly decreased demand for acid, time saving/lessenergy consuming, high productivity and without the release of toxicgas(es) than Hummers’ method. Single sheets of GO with layerspacing of ∼1 nm were obtained in less than 1 h. This procedurewas safe and expected to be applicable for the scale production ofGO. Both graphene oxide film and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) filmshowed good bending flexibility. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
