Abstract

Linguistics has become more and more technical, digitalized and experimental in the last years. Without denying the technical and methodological advantages of these evolutions, the present paper postulates that the initial base of linguistic research should be human empathy: language should not only be observed from outside, as it were a natural object. The researcher should rather take profit from the possibility of assuming the object departing from Its own configuration, re-creating it within his own mind in order to understand its real essence. It will be argued that linguistics ought to be empathic in studies of current languages as well as in diachronic research since linguistic creativity allows also for Intuitions on previous states of a language.
