Abstract

Several Studies indicate ecodriving as a strategy to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The word ecodriving commonly indicates the combination of some driving techniques and style of driving. Insurers can represent an instrument to improve ecodriving. Some important actuarial studies done in the last 10 years indicate a direct connection between efficient drivers and those drivers with fewer preventable accidents. So ecodriving can have a direct concern for insurers. In the global market of motor insurance it is possible to find examples of green insurance policies providing discount for eco-drivers. In some case premiums are based directly on how much it is driven during the policy term. Premiums are calculated taking in to account the following factors: vehicle-mile, vehicle-kilometer or vehicle-minute. We intend to focus attention to the ecological function of such policies, to some related juridical problems and to possible solutions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
