Abstract

The author argues that U.S. sociologists should engage in public sociology and guide government policy. Topics include the study of culture in relation to the social conditions of African-American youth, the role of sociologists in evaluating the U.S. government program Building Strong Families, and the author's co-authorship of the book "The Cultural Matrix: Understanding Black Youth," by Ethan Fosse.
