Abstract

The authors argue that the international medical community need to change tobacco policy to stop cigarette smoking which is the cause of the huge number of deaths worldwide in the 20th century. Topics covered include the growth of the American cigarette companies despite the restrictions on tobacco advertising and high level of cigarette taxes, the objectives of the World Health Organization's Framework Convention on Tobacco Control, and the evolution of electronic nicotine-delivery systems.
