Abstract
- Empowerment is a key component of the National Service Framework for Diabetes. This paper explains the concept and relates it to a major international study of the attitudes, wishes and needs of people with diabetes. Drawing on her own experience, the author describes the roles of the expert patient and the diabetes champion.
