Abstract

Research has increasingly focused on the role that social circumstances before, during, and after trauma exposure play in risk for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In this article, we provide an overview of conceptual and methodological challenges to the study of social context's role in PTSD and propose strategies that can mitigate these challenges. Throughout the article, we draw from the current literature to illustrate how attention to these issues can lead to advances in our knowledge of the role of social context in PTSD.<br /> (Published by Elsevier Ltd.)
