Abstract

A novel two-dimensional Co <superscript>II</superscript> coordination framework, namely poly[(μ <subscript>2</subscript> -biphenyl-4,4'-diyldicarboxylato-κ <superscript>2</superscript> O <superscript>4</superscript> :O <superscript>4'</superscript> ){μ <subscript>2</subscript> -bis[4-(2-methyl-1H-imidazol-1-yl)phenyl] ether-κ <superscript>2</superscript> N <superscript>3</superscript> :N <superscript>3'</superscript> }cobalt(II)], [Co(C <subscript>14</subscript> H <subscript>8</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> )(C <subscript>20</subscript> H <subscript>18</subscript> N <subscript>4</subscript> O)] <subscript>n</subscript> , has been prepared and characterized by IR, elemental analysis, thermal analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal structure reveals that the compound has an achiral two-dimensional layered structure based on opposite-handed helical chains. In addition, it exhibits significant photocatalytic degradation activity for the degradation of methylene blue.
