Abstract
- Recent revisions to the competency profiles for the four Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists medical radiation technology (MRT) disciplines highlight the need for practitioners to understand and apply the principles of evidence-based practice (EBP). Adoption of EBP is important if MRT is to be recognized and advance professionally. This review article will introduce the principles of EBP and use a clinical scenario to apply the five steps: formulate a question, search for the answer, appraise the literature, apply the results, and evaluate the outcome. In the scenario, a fictitious radiological technologist encounters a clinical question and seeks an answer using the EBP framework. Barriers, challenges, and strategies to promote EBP for MRTs will also be discussed.<br /> (Copyright © 2009 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.)
