Abstract

Introduction: We aimed to evaluate the impact of the new coronavirus disease 2019 on coronary hospitalizations in the Brazilian private health system.
Methods: Data on coronary admissions in 2020 and a 2-year historical series were collected from the UNIMED-BH insurance system.
Results: Admission rates in 2020 reduced by 26% (95%CI, 22-30) in comparison with 2018/2019, markedly from March to May (37%) compared to the peak of the pandemic (June-September, 19%). Mortality was higher in 2020 (5.4%, 95%CI 4.5-6.4) than in 2018/2019 (3.6%, 95%CI 3.2-4.1).
Conclusions: There was a significant decrease in coronary admissions, with higher mortality during the COVID-19 pandemic.
