Abstract
- Concomitant chronic kidney disease (CKD) and coronary artery disease (CAD) is known to have poor outcomes. With a thorough literature review, we discuss the pathophysiological basis behind accelerated atherosclerosis in CKD, and the role of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in these patients, focusing on drug-eluting stents, coronary artery bypass grafting, and adverse outcomes. We discuss factors contributing to poor outcomes in these patients, and the need for more work in this subgroup.<br />Competing Interests: The authors have no conflicts of interest to declare.
