Abstract

The synthesis and characterization of two Co(II) complexes stabilized by a tridentate SCS pincer ligand are described. Paramagnetic [Co(κ <superscript>3</superscript> -SCS <superscript>CH2</superscript> -Et) <subscript>2</subscript> ] and [Co(κ <superscript>3</superscript> -SCS <superscript>CH2</superscript> - t Bu)(κ <superscript>2</superscript> -SCS <superscript>CH2</superscript> - t Bu)] were obtained via transmetalation protocol from CoBr <subscript>2</subscript> and S(C-Br)S <superscript>CH2</superscript> -R (R = Et, t Bu). Oxidation of the latter with [Cp <subscript>2</subscript> Fe]PF <subscript>6</subscript> affords the diamagnetic 18 VE complex [Co(κ <superscript>3</superscript> -SCS <superscript>CH2</superscript> - t Bu) <subscript>2</subscript> ]PF <subscript>6</subscript> .
