Abstract

A new cesium hydroxyborate CsB <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> , was designed and synthesized by a hydrothermal method. Remarkably, CsB <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> presents novel [B <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> ] <subscript>∞</subscript> chains formed by [B <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> ] fundamental building blocks (FBBs). The report of less common [B <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> ] FBBs and [B <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> ] <subscript>∞</subscript> chains in CsB <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> enriches the structural diversity of hydroxyborates. In addition, CsB <subscript>3</subscript> O <subscript>4</subscript> (OH) <subscript>2</subscript> has a wide transparent window in the DUV spectral range and a large birefringence.
