Abstract

Depression occurs in 15 to 25% of elderly patients in long-term care settings. It is frequently misdiagnosed and inadequately treated. However, given the significant morbidity and mortality associated with late-life depression, the clinician needs to be aware of it and treat it aggressively with appropriate pharmacologic and psychotherapeutic interventions.
