Abstract

Solvent induced structural diversities from a cup-shaped Co<subscript>8</subscript> cluster (1) in methanol to a Co<subscript>8</subscript> cluster-based co-crystal chain (2) in ethanol/n-propanol and a Co<subscript>8</subscript> cluster-based chain (3) in n-butanol under the same stoichiometric ratio of reactants have been reported. In situ ligand conversion has taken place and the new ligand is captured within the metallic core. Magnetic analyses indicate that theses complexes exhibit distinct magnetic behaviours at low temperature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
