Abstract

A convenient method for the synthesis of silver alkynyl compounds containing different nuclearities has been developed. The reaction of AgC≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript> and AgX (X = CF<subscript>3</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript><superscript>−</superscript>, C<subscript>2</subscript>F<subscript>5</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript><superscript>−</superscript>) in the presence of auxiliary ligands L (L = bipyridine, bipy; 1,10-phenanthroline, phen; 2-(diphenylphosphino)pyridine, dppy) under different conditions afforded a family of new silver alkynyl compounds, namely, [Ag<subscript>3</subscript>(bipy)(C≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript>)(CF<subscript>3</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>]<subscript>n</subscript> (1), [Ag<subscript>4</subscript>(bipy)<subscript>2</subscript>(C≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript>)(CF<subscript>3</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>3</subscript>]<subscript>n</subscript> (2), [Ag<subscript>6</subscript>(phen)<subscript>3</subscript>(C≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>(C<subscript>2</subscript>F<subscript>5</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>4</subscript>(MeOH)(EtOH)] (3), [Ag<subscript>8</subscript>L<subscript>4</subscript>(C≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>(C<subscript>2</subscript>F<subscript>5</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>] (L = bipy, 4; L = phen, 5), [Ag<subscript>10</subscript>(dppy)<subscript>2</subscript>(C≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>X<subscript>4</subscript>] (X = CF<subscript>3</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript><superscript>−</superscript>, 6; X = C<subscript>2</subscript>F<subscript>5</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript><superscript>−</superscript>, 7), [Ag<subscript>12</subscript>(bipy)<subscript>2</subscript>(C≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript>)<subscript>8</subscript>(C<subscript>2</subscript>F<subscript>5</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>4</subscript>] (8) and [Ag<subscript>12</subscript>(phen)<subscript>4</subscript>(C≡CBu<superscript>t</superscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>(CF<subscript>3</subscript>CO<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>]·2EtOH (9). Single-crystal X-ray analysis revealed that compounds 1 and 2 display infinite-chain structures, while the other seven compounds are discrete molecules containing silver nuclearities varying from 6 to 12. The formation of various structural motifs depends on the reactant ratios and the ligands/anions with different nature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
