Über die Umweltpolitik der DDR.

The article examines East German environmental policy. The pollution of East Germany with acid rain-inducing sulfur oxides is described, political factors which influenced the perception of the extent of ecological damage in East Germany are identified, and the depictions of alleged East German ecological disasters in media sources including the newspapers "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung", "De Spiegel", and "Die Zeit" are scrutinized. Information is offered on efforts by the East German government to implement emissions controls in the exhaust systems of automobiles as well as the political fallout of East German air pollution.
