Abstract

The article reports on the influence of the Arab Spring Uprisings on the global reputation of Indonesia, focusing on Indonesia as a model for balancing democracy and Islamic authority in politics and culture. The role of government and cultural diplomacy in Indonesia's foreign relations is discussed. Other topics include Islam in Indonesian popular culture, the transition to democracy following the 1988 resignation of Indonesian leader Muhammad Soeharto, and human rights protests in Indonesia.
