Abstract

This article discusses the Spanish attitude towards Russian nihilism following the assassination of its leader Alexander II in 1881, with a particular focus on its treatment in the Spanish press. The author comments on the concept of nihilism in the modernization of politics and society, including the development of women's rights, higher educational standards, and nationalism. The relationship between these nihilistic ideals and Spanish liberalism is examined and Spain's foreign relations with greater Europe at the time is also explored.
