Abstract: An essay is presented which discusses the need for academic libraries' transformation highlighted in the article "Choosing Our Futures" that was published in the journal "College & Research Libraries" in 1996. Topics discussed include issues involved in organizational transformation, importance of infrastructure and legacy in transition, and increasing use of technology in academic libraries. Also mentioned is the rising impact of academic technologies on libraries' transformation.
