Dedication of an addition to the U.S. National Clonal Repository System in Hilo, Hawaii, which houses the nation's germplasm for tropical, Pacific Basin crops such as acerola, cherry, breadfruit, and guava; Meeting of the New York Academy of Sciences during which awards were presented to James F. Gusella, Frank H. Ruddle, Saul Krugman, and Barbara A. Baird; Creation of the Association of Ecosystem Research Centers; Richard C. Atkinson, chancellor of the University of California at San Diego, who has been named president-elect of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
