Abstract

The article presents a study that reveals apelin-APJ pathway as an endogenous counterinjury mechanism which protects against acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The study examined the effects of ARDS on apelin and APJ receptor expressions and on APJ receptor binding capacity and evaluated the protective effect of activating the apelin-APJ pathway against oleic acid- or lipopolysaccharide induced ARDS.
