Only the ruling party Partido Acción Nacional (PAN), or the main opposition party Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) has a chance of winning a simple majority. But the smaller opposition party Partido de la Revolución Democrática (PRD) hopes to increase its representation in the Chamber, benefiting in the Federal District from the popularity of Andres Manuel López Obrador, PRD head of the Mexico City government. Six states will hold gubernatorial elections in July 2003. Campeche, Colima, Sonora and San Luis Potosí, all states are currently governed by the PRI, and Nuevo León and Querétaro, which are currently have PAN governors.
