Abstract
- The reactivity of nucleophilic carbodiphosphorane (C(PPh<subscript>3</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>, 1) and carbodicarbene (C(C(NMe)<subscript>2</subscript>C<subscript>6</subscript>H<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript>, 2) towards various dichlorophosphines has been explored. In most cases the expected carbone-for-chloride ligand exchange was observed. However, the use of MeN(PCl<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>2</subscript> resulted in a unique P–N bond cleavage that, according to computational studies, occurred via an S<subscript>N</subscript>2′-like mechanism.
