Recent publications have failed to demonstrate significant differences in perioperative oncological and functional outcomes between laparoscopic radical prostatectomy (LRPE) and R-LRPE. Reports suggesting better functional results, in particular better potency rates for R-LRPE, are rare. However, to date no large prospective, randomized, multicenter studies have compared the two methods. With an experienced operator both methods produce comparably good results.
