Abstract

This article presents the 1972 report of the Committee on Publications of the American Sociological Association. The committee met twice during the past year, the Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado on August 30, 1971 and in Washington D.C. on February 25, 1972. The following was accomplished. First, recommendations to the council were made for the appointment of new editors of the Journal of Health and Behavior, Sociology of Education, Sociometry, and the American Sociologist. Second, a considerable amount of time was devoted to the proposed merger of Socio-Log with the American Sociologist. The primary motive for this merger was the severe financial problems faced by the Association. Proposals were developed in Denver for an interim arrangement for one year. The committee will examine this arrangement after one year and make suggestions for a permanent policy. The committee also initiated a survey of the membership to determine their journal reading practices and preferences. Results of this survey will provide the committee with greater information as it examines the journal publication policies of the American Sociological Association.
