Abstract

The article presents information on various conferences and seminars in the world of sociology that appeared in the 1963 issue of the "International Journal of Comparative Sociology." The Fifth World Congress of Sociology has its session on "The Sociology of Development." In the final plenary session on "The Sociology of Development", with Y.A. Zamoshkin in the chair, gist of four principal papers were presented This was followed by discussion of the papers and the reports by representatives of five Work Groups. The International Sociological Association's Committee on Family Research, under the chairmanship of Reuben Hill, held its Seventh International Seminar on Family Research was held from September 9-15, 1962 at Washington D.C. The Committee on Family Research, it may be noted in passing, has taken over the laudable task of fostering and administering the annual international family research seminars from the UNESCO Institute for Social Sciences at Cologne, whose Director of Research, Dr. Nels Anderson, took care of the Seminars as administrative secretary for several years. The Committee's second major task has been to solicit and organize a symposium issue of the "International Social Science Journal," on "Progress in Family Research" with John Mogey as the editor. The third task has been organization of the programme of the family section of the Fifth World Congress of Sociology.
