Abstract
- The article replies to comments made on authors article. There are two issues that Stephen K. Sanderson raises. The first focuses on his interpretation that Fernand Braudel, ecologist, is more of an environmental determinist than the author admit and, furthermore, that Braudel is closer to the cultural ecology theory, than the author realize and know. Thus, the author made a fundamental error in his interpretation of Braudel's ecology. The second is the adequacy of the author's scholarship. The former is very relevant to his discussion of Braudel and ecological theory, the latter is trivial. The author's central thesis is that Braudel employed a large number of independent variables to develop his analytic scheme, including a set of variables, that human ecologists have employed. The author says, he do not concur with Sanderson that Julian Steward, ecologist, is an environmental determinist whose position is therefore closer to Sanderson's interpretation of Braudel than him.
