Abstract: The article reports on challenges facing container shipping providers in the Brazilian remote city of Manaus, located deep in the Amazon and unreachable by the country's national road network. Topics discussed include the growth experienced by the Manaus Free Trade Zone since its establishment in 1957, the complicated logistics that makes use of waterborne transport and air cargo and the proposed 200 million dollars facility with floating 500-meter quay and throughput for 300,000 TEU per year.
