Abstract

The article features the Spanish Ranch, Tuscarora in the Great Basin maintaining Spanish vaquero traditions as founded by Basque brothers Pedro and Bernardo Altube in 1871. Topics covered include sixth-generation Elko Country cowboy Ira Wines managing the buckaroo crew at the Spanish Ranch since 2003 and breeding Quarter Horses with Thoroughbred blood. Also mentioned is the Spanish Ranch purchased by Ellison Ranching Company in 1925 with Bill Hall as the ranch general manager.
