- The article reports on the cultural history of New Year celebrations from 2,000 B.C. to the present, focusing especially on ancient history. Topics addressed include traditions and practices surrounding the holiday held by the Babylonians of Mesopotamia, Rome, and during the Middle Ages throughout Europe.
