Abstract

A definition of the term "pastiche" is presented. It refers to a work of art that imitates the forms, gestures or styles of an antique model or older work. The food analogy provides useful image to conceive pastiche as both compositional technique and artistic form. It was the resolute copy and referentiality that marked pastiche as postmodernism's signature mode.
