Abstract

The article focuses on the state of Sino-Tibetan linguistics and looks at its future prospects. Sino-Tibetan is one of the greatest language families in the world. Tibeto-Burman comprises hundreds of languages besides Tibetan and Burmese. The construction of middle chinese is based mainly on the rhyme-books produced by contemporary Chinese literati. The cultural importance of China and India has shaped the development of the East and Southeast Asian linguistic area but diversity is the hallmark of the region.
