Abstract

New borophosphates Li<subscript>3</subscript>Cs<subscript>2</subscript>M<subscript>2</subscript>B<subscript>3</subscript>P<subscript>6</subscript>O<subscript>24</subscript> (M = Pb, Sr) have been synthesized by high-temperature solid-state reactions. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction data reveal their non-centrosymmetric cubic space group P2<subscript>1</subscript>3 and lattice parameters of a = 12.7246(3) Å and 12.687(2) Å and V = 2060.31(8) Å<superscript>3</superscript> and 2042.3(4) Å<superscript>3</superscript> for Li<subscript>3</subscript>Cs<subscript>2</subscript>Pb<subscript>2</subscript>B<subscript>3</subscript>P<subscript>6</subscript>O<subscript>24</subscript> and Li<subscript>3</subscript>Cs<subscript>2</subscript>Sr<subscript>2</subscript>B<subscript>3</subscript>P<subscript>6</subscript>O<subscript>24</subscript>, respectively. They are three-dimensional (3D) [BP<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>8</subscript>]<superscript>3−</superscript><subscript>∞</subscript> anionic frameworks formed by a new double six-membered ring building unit consisting of BO<subscript>4</subscript> and PO<subscript>4</subscript> units joined alternately. Interestingly, such a double six-membered ring is regarded as the structural variation of the 12-membered ring in the known KSrBP<subscript>2</subscript>O<subscript>8</subscript>, fusing at the BO<subscript>4</subscript> tetrahedron induced by the coexistence of the Li<superscript>+</superscript> and Cs<superscript>+</superscript> cations with their large size difference. The title compounds show weak SHG intensity and exhibit photoluminescence emissions at 410 nm for Li<subscript>3</subscript>Cs<subscript>2</subscript>Pb<subscript>2</subscript>B<subscript>3</subscript>P<subscript>6</subscript>O<subscript>24</subscript> and 440 nm for Li<subscript>3</subscript>Cs<subscript>2</subscript>Sr<subscript>2</subscript>B<subscript>3</subscript>P<subscript>6</subscript>O<subscript>24</subscript>.
