Abstract

A new member of giant polyoxomolybdate containing bridging hydroxylamine groups has been unexpectedly obtained during the preparation of the material of {Mo<subscript>57</subscript>V<subscript>6</subscript>}, (NH<subscript>4</subscript>)<subscript>4</subscript>Na<subscript>2</subscript>[Mo<subscript>36</subscript><superscript>VI</superscript>O<subscript>108</subscript>(NH<subscript>2</subscript>OH)<subscript>2</subscript>(OH))<subscript>6</subscript>(H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>12</subscript>] · 35H<subscript>2</subscript>O. The title compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/n, a= 16.7886(2), b = 18.4309(3), c = 24.49950(10) Å, β = 99.58°, V = 7475.18(15) ų, Z = 2, and D<subscript>calc</subscript> = 2.817. Each giant cluster anion [Mo<subscript>36</subscript><superscript>VI</superscript>O<subscript>108</subscript>(NH<subscript>2</subscript>OH)<subscript>2</subscript>(OH)<subscript>6</subscript> (H<subscript>2</subscript>O)<subscript>12</subscript>]<superscript>6-</superscript> ({Mo<subscript>36</subscript>(NO)<subscript>2</subscript>}) consists of two large [Mo<subscript>15</subscript><superscript>VI</superscript>O<subscript>50</subscript>(MoO<subscript>2</subscript><superscript>4+</superscript>(µ-NH<subscript>2</subscript>(OH) (µ-OH)(t-OH)<subscript>2</subscript>(t-OH<subscript>2</subscript>)<subscript>6</subscript>]<superscript>5-</superscript> ({Mo<subscript>17</subscript>} units linked together by two {MoO<subscript>2</subscript>}<superscript>2+</superscript> centers; these anions {Mo<subscript>36</subscript>(NO)<subscript>2</subscript>} are further connected via distorted monocapped pentagonal-pyramidal sodium into a three-dimensional structure with channels that filled with lattic water molecules and NH<subscript>4</subscript><superscript>+</superscript> ions. KEY WORDS: Giant polyoxomolybdate; synthesis and crystal structures; bridging hydroxylamine groups. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
