Abstract
- The article discusses the efficacy of performance ratings as a management tool in an organization's performance appraisal process in the U.S. as of June 2016. Topics discussed include potential problems with performance ratings such as limited effectiveness of rater training, inadequate criteria, and questionable validity, objection to performance ratings based on quality perspective, and the causes of problems with performance management such as its perception as bureaucratic necessity.
