Abstract
- The article discusses poems Nobel Sisters and Sister Maude composed by Christina Rossetti after she began working at Highgate with the Church Penitentiary Movement. Sister relationships characterized by antagonism and competitiveness is said to form a stark contrast to her earlier work Goblin Market. They raise a series of questions on Rossetti's attitude toward sororal relationships and women's communities. The two poems suggest that Rossetti's attitude toward communities of women changed dramatically following her experience at Highgate.
