Abstract
- Previous research has documented that women display more risk-averse choices than men do in many decision domains, including portfolio choice. Using a laboratory experiment, we study gender differences in portfolio allocation between a fund of risky assets and a safe asset. We find that men invest more into the fund than women do, consistently with the literature. We further investigate the effect of a loss limitation on net return from the fund investment. Using within-subject design, we find evidence that men increase their risky investment in the presence of the loss limitation, whereas women do not. We conclude that women are more risk tolerant over losses than men are. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
