Abstract

The article focuses on the use of the passive voice by legal writers. It mentions conventional wisdom stating that writers need to use the active voice, the difference between transitive and intransitive verbs and some features of the passive voice which include how the actor trots to the end of the sentence, the possibility of omitting the actor and the need for more words to say the same statement. Also noted are several situations in which the use of the passive voice is preferred.
