Abstract

Case Report: We report on a 37-year-old woman with a 10-week history of neck pain and brachialgia along the right C6 dermatome. Neurological findings included weakness of the right biceps muscle and hypesthesia of the right thumb. The patient was diagnosed as having von Recklinghausen?s disease (neurofibromatosis 1) 10 years ago, and a CT scan demonstrated an extraspinal paravertebral mass with osseous arrosion of the right vertebral foramen at C6. The primary diagnosis was neurofibroma, but further diagnostic workup including MRI, MR angiography and digital subtraction angiography revealed an extracranial vertebral artery aneurysm compressing the right C6 root. An attempt to occlude the aneurysm by coil embolization failed in another institution. Further interventions were rejected by the patient who experienced spontaneous resolution of her complaints and complete neurological recovery within a few weeks. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
