Abstract

This paper examines issues of power and control in mental health service provision, as discussed by African-Caribbean parents within a series of focus groups. These issues are multi-faceted and incorporate aspects of confidentiality, stigmatization, accessibility and ethnic matching. The impact of migration and the option of community self-reliance are discussed, along with implications for the provision of mental health services. Copyright © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
