Abstract

The global economic and social evolution highlights the need to increase the amount of resources required to meet the population's ever-growing demands. Nevertheless, agricultural lands are limited, which means that the amount of agri-food produces can be increased by modern production tehnology supported by irrigation. The current irrigation situation worldwide shows the low performance of the irrigation systems due to their defective management. The solution to this problem is the transference of irrigation management to its users. Romania holds an irrigation-planned area of 3,046,341 ha (2012) and has developed a new irrigation system aiming to maximize the areas where irrigation has economic viability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
