Abstract
- The current study examines the effects of supervisor-to-subordinate expression of gratitude on subordinate engagement, perceived supervisor support, and turnover intentions. The intention of the gratitude expression is investigated as a potential moderator. This study provides a new avenue in studying the supervisor-subordinate relationship and presents empirical research of gratitude expression in organizational research. LMX theory is used to support the main hypotheses. The study uses SEM to analyze data from a sample of 245 undergraduate and graduate students who are employed and report to a direct supervisor. All of the direct relationships between supervisor-to-subordinate expression of gratitude and subordinate behaviors are supported. The results and implications of the study are addressed.
