Abstract

This article presents information on a case study related to contact urticaria from tilia, a lime tree. A 25-year-old woman, with a history of seasonal rhinitis, had 3 separate episodes of generalized urticaria with oedema of the lips, face and mouth, following the use of a tilia extract shampoo. Prick tests with inhalants, house dust and moulds gave positive reactions to tilia. Thin layer chromatography gas-chromatographic analysis of a chloroform-methanol extract of the shampoo showed the presence, in low concentration, of eugenol.
