Abstract

The article focuses on origin and development of modern arrangements for authorization and oversight of interception of communications within Great Britain. Topics discussed include role of the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) in shaping the contours of British surveillance law, court's power to enforce the human rights provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and government surveillance and privacy rights with the law of telephone wiretapping.
