Abstract

The Oriental Fire-bellied Newt ( Cynops orientalis David) has been listed as Near Threatened species (NT) recently due to habitat destruction and degradation and illegal trade in the domestic and international pet markets. We sequenced and characterized the complete mitochondrial genome (mitogenome) of C. orientalis in this paper. The complete mitogenome sequence of C. orientalis is 16,294 bp in length, containing 37 genes (13 protein coding genes, two ribosomal RNA, 22 transfer RNA genes and one control region). The new sequenced complete mitogenome of C. orientalis will provide useful information for application in conservation genetics and evolution for this near threatened species. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
