How supervisor-subordinate guanxi impacts subordinate performance.

Drawing on conservation of resources (COR) theory, this study develops a process model demonstrating how supervisor-subordinate guanxi relations contribute to subordinate performance. The proposed model was tested on a sample of 599 subordinate-supervisor dyads from seven manufacturing firms in China. The results indicate that two process variables job resources and job crafting sequentially mediate the influence of supervisor-subordinate guanxi on performance. Our study makes a noteworthy contribution to guanxi theory as it relates to organizational behaviour with important implications for future research. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
