Abstract

An essay on the 1914 assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria in Sarajevo in history and memory is presented. It examines the schism between history and memory, and why the assassination was remembered and evoked in so many forms of popular representation and historical narration. It also explores the origins of the Sarajevo assassination.
