Abstract

The new millennium and the revolutionary medium of communication - the Internet brought a lot of change in all spheres of life to individuals and companies. In addition to many positive aspects and opportunities that the Internet provides (such as fast and instant communication, new forms of entertainment, education, an immediate source of information), it is important to recognize the presence of multiple risks linked to communication through new digital media and technologies. We consider that one of the most serious hazards is cyberbullying, the research of which was also a priority scientific interest of our paper. The paper deals with the issue of risks of electronic communication with a specific emphasis on cyberbullying issues and has the character of a theoretical study. The paper uses the hermeneutical method and reflects the basic theoretical bases and definitions of the presented problem and their comparison through various authors´ approaches and opinions. The authors put emphasis on the clarification of the individual forms of cyberbullying, its actors or the means through which it can be realized. The authors further conducted a meta-analysis of cyberbullying research in the Slovak Republic to find out the current state of this modern form of violence in order to point out the current situation as well as possible forms of cyberbullying prevention and to develop recommendations on how to eliminate cyberbullying and prevent it.
