Abstract

The article examines the role of runaway advertisements in aiding the re-enslavement of slaves during the Romantic era. Topics discussed include the Consolidated Slave Act (1788), the description of maroonage and canonization, and the efforts of slaves for their emancipation as recorded in runaway advertisements printed in British West Indian newspapers in the Romantic era.
